WHAT WE BUY... AND DON'T BUY... CAN SAVE THE RAINFOREST FROM DESTRUCTION. THE FOLLOWING IS A GUIDE TO HELP YOU BECOME AN ENVIRONMENTALLY AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE CONSUMER.
BANANAS
Deforestation is by far the biggest environmental problem in Costa Rica. Around 1900, 85% of Costa Rica was rainforest. By 1985, only 26 percent remained, most of the loss going to banana plantations.
Besides, organic crops are prohibited from being irradiated, genetically engineered or fertilized with sewage sludge. That should be reason enough to go ORGANIC!

"I believe that to meet the challenge of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. We must all learn to work not just for our own self, family, or nation but for the benefit of all humankind. Universal responsibility is the key to human survival. It is the best foundation for world peace, the equitable use of natural resources, and through concern for future generations, the proper care of the environment."
