We are inspiring and empowering the next generation of conservation scientists
COTERC (Canadian Organization for Tropical Education and Rainforest Conservation) is a non-profit based in Canada contributing to tropical research and education through our field station in Costa Rica.
We provide immersive learning experiences
We’ve been helping young conservation scientists to appreciate and understand tropical ecosystems since 1991.
We provide an immersive, hands-on experience to visitors at our research station in Tortuguero, Costa Rica — exposing them to one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems and giving them confidence to collect, analyse, and interpret data.
Rigorous science and long-term datasets
Visiting students and university groups leave the station having worked across a number of long-term monitoring programmes. Many write or contribute to reports or papers that influence local area management and improve our knowledge of understudied species and ecological communities.
