To train the next generation of conservation scientists
Universities are the breeding ground for the next generation of conservation scientists. It is there that they learn the fundamental skills to understand and conserve biodiversity.
We offer a complementary learning experience — providing a hands-on opportunity to develop field craft and learn about the challenges of working in tropical ecosystems.
Many professors and universities use Caño Palma Biological Station as their preferred place of research — bringing their students to participate in our long-term monitoring programmes and to undertake their own research.
Dr Sarah Ivers, Shawnee State University
“Caño Palma Biological Station is a fantastic place to bring students. Not only are they inspired by the local biodiversity, but they learn real research skills through immersion in ongoing projects.”
Jake Bicknell, University of Kent
“Caño Palma is well equipped and has a great mix of projects — enabling us to cover a range of taxa during a relatively short field trip.”
Let us host your next field trip
We can host groups of up to 20 students and staff.
Participate in long-term monitoring programs and receive training from researchers at the station.
Access equipment and station resources.
Build in time for students to undertake their own independent research (optional).
Propose a collaboration
We partner with universities across the world on individual projects.
Make use of long-term datasets, and complement it with new data to understand local species.
Get support from our researchers an interns for longer-term projects.
Joint fundraising to unlock new sources of support.
